About Us
UWSISOC stands for University of Wales Swansea Islamic Society Committee, a Muslim students' umbrella in the University. As Muslim students' body in the Swansea University (as currently known), the aims of the Society are to provide spiritual, cultural and educational guidance and activities to the Muslim students in the university. The Mosque, in this regard, has been major centre of the activities of the Society. Five daily prayers and Friday prayer are being performed regularly. Qur'an and Arabic classes for both the adults and children are taught in addition to lectures and annual events such as dawa'a, Islam Awareness Week, etc are organised. For the physical development of its members, the Society organises table tennis (within the Mosque) and football (at times in University football pitch or in indoor sport centre which it hires).
Moreover, the Society works hand in hand with the University's administration, especially the students' services department and international office on issues regarding the Muslim students' welfare and other necessary needs. As one of outfits of Students' Union, the Society plays a significant role in highlighting the Muslim students‘desires and aspirations. The Society, over the years through its participation, consultations and initiatives, has tremendously achieved a lot in organising activities that project the image of Muslim committee in Swansea. As a result, many non-Muslims reverted to Islam and many others learnt more about Islam and Muslims' worldview.
